Jair Bolsonaro has been taken into custody after authorities concluded he posed a definite escape threat while under house arrest.

The former head of state was found guilty of plotting a armed takeover in the ninth month and sentenced more than over two decades in incarceration, but he continued under house arrest pending court reviews.

In a filing authorising the detention, the judge said information from the unit overseeing Bolsonaro's house arrest suggested the ex-president's "intention to break the surveillance device to ensure success in his flight.
